About Me
Who I am today is a direct result of the path I took to get here.
In fact, I think that my training to become a social worker began long before I started any kind of formal education. I was always a somewhat rebellious youth with a healthy skepticism of authority figures and tended to take a hard stance against anyone who I saw trying to take advantage of another person, even if they were my high school principal. I didn’t always win in those battles against abusers and just plain jerks, but I never gave up fighting. That same spirit took me down the path of becoming a social worker, so I could work with clients on finding the strength to advocate for themselves too. I began my journey at South Oaks addiction counseling program and at the VA’s inpatient rehab program, where I learned how to support children of alcoholics and those battling addiction themselves. I knew then where my path was leading me and I continued on to get my MSW from Stony Brook University. Since then, I have sought to help others on a path toward permanent healing. I have worked with people from all walks of life, and I think that has helped to strengthen my ability to guide anyone toward better mental and emotional wellbeing.
One of my strongest-held beliefs is that in order to fully understand our current destructive behaviors, we must analyze the patterns that began from a young age in order to permanently heal these wounds. I will work to ask you the right questions to unearth these unconscious motivations and patterns that oftentimes keep us stuck in frustrating and challenging situations in life. Then, we will work together to develop new, healthier coping strategies that are appropriate for you. I believe that lasting healing is possible when we get in touch with our feelings, acknowledge them, use our own voice to bring them to the surface, reach out for help when we need it.
I hope that my clients will always feel that when they come to me for help they are met by a woman with not only the wisdom and experience of someone who has been in practice for over 3 decades, but also with the humor and heart of that high school girl advocating for her friends against a principal’s tyrannical rules.
